**Understanding Firefighter Personal Vehicle Coverage Under the Enduris Policy**

We have received numerous inquiries regarding the coverage of firefighters’ personal vehicles (POVs) under the Enduris policy. All members must understand the terms and how this coverage functions in the event of an emergency. The Enduris policy states:

Firefighter Personal Vehicle Property Damage Coverage: This coverage is extended to cover the actual repair for physical damage to vehicles of the private passenger, van or pickup truck type, owned by a firefighter of the Member when responding to, working at, or returning from an alarm of fire or emergency call while engaged in active duty on behalf of the Member up to the actual cash value, less the district’s deductible. This coverage is declared secondary to any named coverage on the claimant’s automobile. If secondary coverage is enacted, the deductible is waived.

**Key Points to Remember**

1. Secondary Coverage: Insurance follows the vehicle in the State of Washington, so the Enduris policy is considered secondary to any primary insurance coverage the firefighter has on their personal vehicle. This means that if a personal auto policy is in place at the time of the accident, it will be utilized first.

2. Waiving the Deductible: If the primary insurance is exhausted and the Enduris policy comes into effect—meaning the personal insurance exceeds its limits or the claim is denied—the member’s deductible will be waived.

3. No Personal Coverage: If a firefighter does not possess personal vehicle insurance, the Enduris policy could apply, and if so, the loss would be paid minus the district deductible.

4. Emergency Response: The Enduris policy only applies if the firefighter is responding to, working at, or returning from an emergency call on behalf of the district at the time the loss occurs.

All members must be aware of these details to make informed decisions about their personal vehicle coverage while responding to emergencies. If you have further questions about this coverage, please contact Enduris for clarification.
